Hemlock Ring

Hemlock Ring Blanket

As soon as I saw this pattern, I was in love. Jared Flood adapted this beautiful vintage doily pattern with a worsted weight yarn and made a lap blanket out of it. Ingenious! I was so in love with the pattern, but entirely too intimidated to try it on my own, so I begged my LYS to have a class for it and they did!

The pattern is surprisingly simpler than it seems. There is a rhythm to it and I really enjoyed knitting it (except for that pesky row 35). My only regret is that I was so anxious to get this off the needles to see my creation that I think I took it off too soon. It's a little small because the yarn was a DK weight (I used Zara). I should have done more feather and fan repeats.

Lace Frenzy: Cotton Lace Scarf

I've learned that I love lace knitting. It is so much more interesting than stockinette or ribbing, though it requires an awful lot of focus and attention. It's difficult to multitask when knitting lace, but it's so gratifying to see the pattern emerge from beneath your fingertips!

I've been busy this past year, and rather neglectful of my blog! So it's time to play catch up.

This was my first endeavor into lace. At the time, I was in love with stitch books and I looked for every opportunity there was to practice playing with all the fun stitch patterns. This basic lace pattern caught my eye. It was a simple repeat that allowed me to switch yarn colors at the garter stitch rows to define the pattern a bit more.

Called Crest of the Wave, I found this stitch pattern in The Knitter's Bible.

I don't recall what yarn I used for this. It was a random find at a yarn shop. But I do remember it is a cotton/viscose blend. I gave this to my mother last summer for her birthday.
